ROYAL PALACE AQABA, JORDAN - Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein of Jordan honored the World Air League by his becoming the Royal Patron for the World Sky Race in Jordan. In accepting his new role, Prince Faisal said, "The World Sky Race is an ambitious and bold project that we hope will connect the world." Representing the World Air League, Commissioner Don Hartsell greeted HRH's decision, "We look forward to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's participation in making the World Sky Race a memorable celebration. We are most honored by the support of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal." HRH Prince Faisal brings to the World Sky Race the prestige of the Middle East and will be instrumental in providing access to the air space above the World Heritage Sites at Petra, Quseir Amra and Um er-Rasas (Kastrom Mefa'a). HRH is the Chief of Air Staff for the Royal Jordanian Air Force. Additionally, he is the head of the Jordanian Olympic Committee.

To initiate the WSR Jordan Local Organizing Committee, Her Excellency Maha Khatib, Minister of Tourism & Antiquities was briefed on the program and the need to coordinate activities between the World Air League and the Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities. To add organizational capabilities, WAL was introduced to His Excellency Karim Kawar, former ambassador to the United States and CEO of the Kawar Group.
